Having successfully obtained authorisation from the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) earlier in the year – Inquest Legal Solicitors Ltd have today officially launched as a new sole practice & legal consultancy business.
Inquest Legal was set up by experienced healthcare lawyer Peter Wade, to provide a niche litigation support service to clinical negligence & personal injury law firms, and medico-legal training for healthcare organisations.
Primarily however, Inquest Legal was established to provide an affordable fixed-fee legal option for bereaved families facing a coroner’s court inquest – following the death of a loved one, in a hospital, healthcare or mental health setting.
Access to specialist legal advice in relation to, and representation at inquests, is notoriously limited – a fact highlighted by recent high profile reports such as Bishop James Jones’ Hillsborough Report, Dame Angiolini’s Death in Police Custody Report and indeed, the chief coroner’s (Judge Mark Lucraft QC) recent annual report.
Leading charity INQUEST are also very active in highlighting the difficulties faced by bereaved families in obtaining access to justice in this area. Executive Director of INQUEST, Deborah Coles recently appeared alongside lawyers, and families at a parliamentary Human Rights Committee to speak about their experiences of the inquest process and the ‘inequality of arms’ they face in accessing legal support -in contrast to the state agencies who are very often represented by publicly funded legal teams.
Inquest Legal’s Managing Director, Peter Wade:
“I have been directly involved in healthcare law practice for around 16 years – representing both families and healthcare professionals in the conduct of complex clinical negligence litigation, and at coroner’s court inquests.
I also have first hand experience of the real difficulties faced by families who cannot access legal advice or representation at inquests, for a variety of reasons. My interest in this area of law, combined with the obvious problems in access to justice for families, inspired me to put an affordable legal solution for families facing coroner court inquests – at the heart of my new business”
Inquest Legal also offer a comprehensive litigation support service for clinical negligence and personal injury law firms, together with medico-legal training for NHS and private healthcare organisations. We have already accepted instructions from firms in relation to client attendance, witness statement drafting and schedules of loss. We also work as a legal consultant to award winning medical records collation company DMR Collation and are in discussions with a national organisation in relation to our medico-legal training offering.
Please get in touch if you would like to discuss how Inquest Legal can assist you or your organisation.
